Our Technology
SchoolFront was developed using industry standard technologies and is based on industry best practices. Primarily Microsoft technologies, the solution is a .NET application with a Microsoft SQL Server back end. The architecture is a three tier model and can scale to meet the needs of even the largest districts.
We have decided upon a hosted model for a number of reasons.
- Cost. The cost to maintain an in house solution that has the same functionality and configuration would require the purchasing of software licenses and server hardware. To provide the same level of redundancy you would need to purchase twice as much infrastructure and potentially increase your staff to support it.
- Understaffed IT. Many IT groups are understaffed and already have problems keeping up with the desktop support issues that arise. Burdening them with managing a sophisticated system like SchoolFront would require additional technical expertise and staff.
- Enhancements. Throughout the school year and over the summer, the FrontEdge development team works to continuously improve the features and funtionality available. We do not charge you for these additional features because we can easily post them to all of our customers by updating our hosted solution. We do this to make sure you, our customers are happy and that you are getting the best use of the information available in our system.
- Security. Accessing the information from any Internet connected computer is a powerful feature but it comes with security concerns. FrontEdge employs industry best practices around security. We host our solution in a SAS70 compliant data center. We protect our solution via network hardware and 24/7 monitoring. Intrusions are prevented and attempts to compromise the system are identified and dealt with. Many districts do not have the security resources required to monitor and deploy a secure solution the way we do.
